This course explores the radical notion of Black joy as an anticapitalist act of resistance and liberation. Through accessible readings, discussions, and multimedia engagement, students will critically analyze how centering Black joy disrupts capitalist frameworks that thrive on exploitation, commodification, and oppression. Topics include the historical roots of Black joy, the cultural and social significance of joy, cultural capital, and the ways Black communities create and sustain joy amidst systemic barriers.
